Christopher McCandless

The image you see above is of Christopher McCandles who had a book wrote about him because of his travels. Into The Wild is the name of the book about him and there is a movie that is based on his experiences.

For those who doesn't know who or what the book/movie is talking about, let me warn you, this will spoil everything so beware.

If you are curious, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_McCandless , it'll give you basic summer of McCandles you need to know.

Why am I writing about him? Let's say I after watching the movie, I was amazed at what he did in his very short life. I mean, he had the balls to just forfeit his life entirely even his family and just disappear in the wilderness just because that is what he perceives life is all about. For starters, he was a gifted person and graduated from a university.

But yet, he still walked away from everything. It is very tempting to choose that life.

Freedom. No responsibilities except for your well-being.

However, I have no balls to pull that kind of adventure out of my sleeve. I do not even know what my life will be like in just five mere years. It shows that life is uncertain and there is no destiny set in stone for you, you create your own destiny by knowing your opportunity and grabbing what you can get out of the opportunities you encounter and choose.

As a teenager, I longed at the idea of living in Europe for a while before going back to school, just blending in the life over there and to really experience something altogether different. However, I wanted to get the best thing for me in the future which I can't foresee what it will be like.

So that makes me wonder, today, we really do lot of things that is based on what would happen in the future. Going to college to help you get your career in the future. Starting up a retirement pension portfolio to earn money when you retire. Buying insurance in case of the car accident you do not want to get in the future. Buying a bag of flour because you might want to make pancakes in the future.

Basically today we are living because of what will happen instead of actually living in what is now and what do you have.

For that, McCandless chose to live his life by living his life focusing on the present. He did not pick a route or have time constraints, he just wanted to get to Alaska and he wanted to live his way to alaska.

Often we will admire people who are radical like McCandles because he is living the life that we are supposed to but we can't because we are not able to find the balls to live in the now that McCandles was able to do.

My life will be all about will happen in the future just like every other person in this society. But I do hope I get to live like McCandles did for a period of time someday. It would be really nice to just lose control of life and just going with the flow of what you can do at that time. Just really blend in whatever is there to be blended in.

Looking at the picture, you wouldn't believe me that he was just 24 years old at the time the picture was taken. Why does he seem older and/or different. I wonder because how he decided to live his last few years really let him experience life and the life like it should be puts more life in you making you older than others who has not lived the life? A thought.

Life is a comedy. Life will take you on adventures prepared or not. Life is interesting.

I wonder what life has in store for me years ahead. A scary thought when you don't have control except what you do now. Everyone should live their life just in the now somewhere in their lives, everything in this world would be different. Very different.

Don't worry ma, I ain't disappearing like McCandless. I'm here to stay and wonder what life is like out there.

Au revoir.
